The long nightmare is just beginning

I think the election of John Murtha to Majority Leader will be good for Republicans in 2008, but it is going to make it awfully hard to stomach the evening news in the meantime.

There isn't really any good comedy shows on the tube that I like, so, I'll be watching the "Murtha does the Democrats"

Republicans may do well in 2008 because of the likes of Murtha, Conyers, Rangell and Pelosi. However, the only friends we have in the rest of the world may be the sort of people who think like the Dems.

That's because the rest of the world is full of commies and fascists. The number of people who actually believe in American-style liberal capitalist democracy is vanishingly small.

TH,
Just because Iowa got beat this weekend is no reason to get snippy! :)

Frankly, as has been written before and more eloquently than this, and as I am just repeating, the neo-Marxist left wants to "immanetize the escahton", that is, bring about the end-state to "capitalism" (a word created by Marx), and usher in world socialism. To true, few people actually support what we call fre-market economics.
The Soviet Union couldn't do it (defeat capitalism), so a lot of them (neo-Marxists) are rolling the dice with Salafist Islam's attempt. A few prominent neo-Marxists (Norm Geras and Christopher Hitchens) seem to realize what a mistake that is, but the rest of that intellectually vapid class is willing to march off the cliff with that idea.
Until the day dawns when our neo-Marxist "friends" in the US and Europe realize we all have to be engaged in defeating Salafist Islam, it will indeed be "the long war".
There is no light at the end of the tunnel, just more darkness.

Any resemblance between John Murtha and "Tip" O'Neil is surely deliberate. The Tipper made his name in the Democrat party and first major power move in the '70's, as leading the charge to knee-cap South Viet Nam by cutting our military and financial aid to that unfortunate country.

Time marches on.

John Murtha could end up turning the voters against the demacrats and blow his chance to be dictator
