Encouraging sanity in the Muslim world
We devote a lot of space on this blog calling attention to the threat of radical Islam, and plan to keep doing it. I, for one, hope that the West wakes up to the threat before the next mass casualty attack. There are many Muslims who oppose tyranny and fascism, though, and we in the West cannot forget that. We therefore also need to identify the heroes in the Muslim world who stand up and refuse to give in to the craziness. The picture at right was taken earlier today outside Iran's embassy in Jakarta. The caption reads "An Indonesian protester holds a picture of Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, calling on Iran to stop its nuclear program, outside the Iranian embassy in Jakarta August 9, 2006." The Muslim world needs many more people such as this nameless protestor if it is to survive the identity crisis that has held it in thrall now for almost 40 years1 or more than 80 years2, depending on your reckoning.
