The Daily China Picture(s)

Tombs of the ancestors, on a family farm near Guilin.

I took this picture on June 22 near the town of Yangshou, which is a couple of hours by slow bus south of Guilin. The region is famous for the rounded rock formations -- it is a stretch to call them mountains -- that form the background of so many traditional Chinese paintings. The topography makes the Guilin area one of the half-dozen or so routine stops on any tour of China. The lobby of the one reasonably decent Western hotel in Yangshou includes black and white photos of the various famous people who have visited, including Richard and Pat Nixon...

...and Ho Chi Minh.

As much as it pains me to say it, Uncle Ho seems like he'd be more fun at a party than Tricky Dick.
