Zhujajiao

This morning we visited Zhujajiao, "a tranquil ancient town on the southern side of the Yangtze River." It's sort of the Venice of China. Without Italians, of course. Or glassblowing.

There are, however, Chinese gondolas, after a fashion:

And, of course, there are big old Chinese buildings...

There is a massive carved wall panel telling stories of China, fashioned from more than a thousand pieces of jade and other stones...

Er, details here:

A big old Buddha for sale...

Shopping for a runner at the silk carpet factory -- we bought the middle one...

Tomorrow we fly to Guilin, deep in the heart of rural China. I have been there before -- twenty years ago -- so I know the scenery will be magnificent. Internet access, though, is a whole 'nother thing.

Thanks for posting the pics. I always wanted to visit China and hope to do so someday!

I like the photos, however I'm deeply concerned those women may have had their shirts stolen...

The visuals are really nice. Tell us about the sounds and smells?
