Commie art

We are still in Shanghai, on to Guilin tomorrow.

Today we saw various sites -- representative photos to follow -- including an exhibition of "Socialist Realism Soviet Painting of the 1930s to the 1950s." Not only were there lots of pictures of Uncle Joe to warm the heart, but triumphalist depictions of all aspects of Soviet society. (Click on the pictures to seem them larger.)

Stalin, with paratroopers jumping in the background:

Uncle Joe and the Chairman, chatting convivially:

The Russian stallion, stomping on the defeated German army (note the trampled swastikas):

Tanks rumbling through the countryside...

...and athletic Soviet women.

From this perspective, perhaps Title IX was just another parry of the Red Threat.

Don't let comrade Oleg see that last painting. There's no telling where his socialist ardor might lead him...
