Blogging from China

Well, after 29 hours of travel we have made it to our hotel in Shanghai, somewhat the worse for wear. The family's napping and I can't therefore be banging away at my keyboard. For those of you keeping tabs on the Great Firewall, I can report that Blogger is available, as are Blogspot blogs (at least mine). Technorati, however, isn't. How strange is that?

More later, I hope.

Your passage to China, although arduous, sounds infinitely preferable to that of our gr-gr-gr-great uncle, Henry Morse Olmsted, who in 1839 endured a passage of more than 100 days from Philadelphia around the Cape of Good Hope and through the roaring 40s (leaving just as the British fleet was arriving at the start of the 1840 Opium War) and once again in 1843. According to his logbook, one of many of the treasures from Margie's trove, Uncle Henry was seasick most of the time and so shaken on the second voyage in the barque Childe Harold that he made the trip home from Canton the second time overland as far as western Europe!
