Zarkman update: The autopsy results are in

Unless you have the brass to allege that a military doctor is lying and falsifying medical records, this pretty much clears it up:

Giving the first details of Zarqawi's autopsy, US military doctor Steve Jones told reporters DNA analysis had confirmed the corpse was Zarqawi's.

"The cause of death was close based primary blast injury of the lung", he said.

There had been tearing, bruising and bleeding in the lungs, which had not been apparent from an external examination, the US official said.

This wound was not immediately fatal, he added.

"Fatal death occurred as lung function deteriorated and the lungs became progressively unable to absorb oxygen into bloodstream," he said.

Col Jones said the body of the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq bore "no evidence of beating or any firearm injuries".

Of course it didn't.

Too bad. I hope the process of asphyxiation was painful at least.

Oh COME ON, TH!

Who are you going to believe? The US Military, or those who truly support the troops?

Does an anonymous report mean a beating happened? No, but the AP is not the National Enquirer and it doens't print bald accusations. Think about it. Pumped up soldiers on a fresh bombing scene realize they've captured the bronze alive (Osama being the gold and Saddam the silver) -- what do you think they did, read him his Miranda rights or give him a few little jubilant stomps?

Killing Zarqawi and three women in the house with him was not an act of war. It was an act of retaliatory terrorism. By our government.

Sometimes I wonder about you.

I really do.

Gee. The Doc described the injuries that occur to many of our GIs when they are ambushed with IEDs. Poetic justice, I say.

Cassandra believes in AP. How quaint.

Our soldiers are a whole lot more disciplined and honorable than AP reporters, Cassie. Half the AP stringers in Iraq are able to coordinate al Quaeda operations in order to set up their photo ops.

But given what the Doc said above, and what "Mohammed" claims to have seen, as reported by AP, is it not also possible that "Mohammed", assuming he saw anything at all, witnessed our guys giving the old Zarkman some CPR, but doesn't recognize what he is seeing? My surmise is just as valid as yours, Cass

Joe_Haskins,

Cassandra is the wife of a Marine officer, and rarely writes without tongue firmly in cheek. As it were.

Sorry Joe. The sarcasm monster got me again.

Actually it's nice to see someone express a little faith in the military :)

And thanks, TH.
