Rendering Gore
But that's exactly what Jeff Goldstein does to Al Gore in this simply outstanding post. Print it out, take it home, and read it during the cocktail hour.

"Moreover, if the pattern of practice begun by this Administration is not challenged, it may well become a permanent part of the American system. Many conservatives have pointed out that granting unchecked power to this President means that the next President will have unchecked power as well. And the next President may be someone whose values and belief you do not trust."
Gore's speech is brilliant, and can be found in its entirety at

The quoted paragraph, though, is asinine. Presidential power has systematically waxed and waned throughout our history, as times and personalities demanded. Gore either knows no history or is making an inflammatory and alarmist argument to rally the beleagured left. Since I believe he probably does know history...

Oops. Wrong again. Al Gore doesn't know his history...
, atI'm truly curious. Have you even *read* the speech? Large parts of it are about various ways in which Presidential power has been used at different times in our history.

TigerHawk - With respect to your second comment. Yup. I noticed that slip too, when I read the speech. There are a few others, but I'll let you find them for yourself since I don't want to help the opposition. I said it was a brilliant speech, not a perfect speech.
