The linked quote is wrong I think. The NPR show Fresh Air had an interview with Clooney and he talked about this. As I recall he declined to join Kerry because Clooney thought that that his presence would be detrimental to the campaign. In fact the article seems like a summary of the interview.
In the interview he relates how he declined in order to *avoid* hurting the Kerry campaign (because of his high-profile leftist views). The quote in the linked
article seems like a mangled version of what Clooney said on the air. It was his
speculation at the time that he might be a distraction whereas the linked article implies that Clooney made some sort of post-election self-evaluation of the
train-trip that never happened.
Regardless, for lots of other reasons I agree with TigerHawk. Fool.
