Sheesh.

Russert is not a democratic party shill. He is a terrible journalist with little regard for truth or ethics. He does this sort of context-stripping quotation routine with all of his guests, trying to get them to trip up. He is "Gotcha" journalism at its worst.

He had the gall to report over and over about the Fitz investigation, even though he had intimate knowledge of the proceddings that he never divulged. This man is no democrat, he's a narcisstic amoralist.

Seems to me that Russert was only being consistent with the story he was trying to sell, by being "deliberately misleading".

I also noticed that Russert misspoke at least twice, saying it now appears there was no evidence to support the President's contention that Saddam had purchased yellowcake from Niger.

Sadly, Mehlman never corrected Russert's mistake. Most of us here already know that the President claimed only that Saddam had sought to buy yellowcake uranium from Africa, a statement based in part upon an intelligence analysis by the British which they stand by to this day.
