Living in a world of delusion

It is difficult not to notice the bizarre world the Democratic Party inhabits today:

1) The US economy is experiencing consistent growth. New home starts ar at unprecedented levels -- there is no greater sign of prosperity; unemployment is down to 5% -- we have added 3.7mm new jobs in the last 25 months.

Yet the consistent message from the Pelosi Party is negative, as reflected in their atavistic, archaic vote against the CAFTA legislation. Protectionism has been debunked by history and empirical evidence as economically disastrous -- yet the DP voted for it. Extraordinary.

2) The Iraq post war stabilization period has seen a democratic election and is now on the verge of the creation of a new constitution. Forces of Arab tyranny are on the defensive -- from Saddam to Assad to Qaddafi. Iraq is now run by a majoritarian coalition of shiites and kurds, with increasing participation from sunnis. Iraq, with US leadership, has both witnessed a progressive revolution and a progressive civil war. Afghanistan -- we don't even need to discuss what it means to have ousted the Taliban in favor of the Karzai elected regime.

The Pelosi Party sees "quagmires." It's really embarrassing. I should include Kennedy and Reid as well. They're jokes.

3) The war on islamic extremism has progressed unevenly, yet the US has not seen a domestic terror attack from al qaeda since 9/11. Most would call this a miracle.

On the priority issues of this moment, the US has risen to the challenge - a burst bubble, a recession and 9/11, and this country has powered through it all. And the DP slept through it. History will not be kind to this group. Few remember the republican, isolationist, protectionist political leadership of the FDR era. Few will remember this DP crowd either.

27 Republicans voted against CAFTA and 15 Democrats voted for it. Stop pretending.

Also, please go read the interesing piece Tigerhawk posted about the most civil way to discuss Iraq.

Lastly, I'm not sure which gilded cage you're living in, but the standard of living for most of the town in which I work has plummeted. You can rattle off all the numbers you want, but folks can't eat numbers.

SH - that is a spectacularly disingenuous post. Stop pretending? You made my point. If 15 DP members voted for it, how many voted against it? If only 27 RP members voted aginst it, how many voted for it?

I am sorry your town has issues. Maybe you should vote out the folks currently running it. I have no idea who they are. But as a nation, we are progressing exceedingly well.

Finally, I said nothing "uncivil" about our success in Iraq. The facts speak for themselves. If the DP wants to revel in defeatism, dragged left by pacifists and socialists, I suppose they're entitled to it do that. It doesn't seem a very wise political strategy is all; and it won't play well with the broad electorate.
