Trucker Bombs

I don't remember C.W. McCall mentioning these:

bond

"As soon as you look for it you’ll see it," says Megan Warfield, litter programs coordinator at Washington state's Department of Ecology. "You just see them glistening in the sun. It’s just gross."

They are trucker bombs, plastic jugs full of urine tossed by truckers, and even non-truckers, who refuse to make a proper potty stop to relieve themselves.

The worst part is about the people who mow the lawns around the interstate. They apparently can't see these things in the high grass, so they don't know they're there. Until the mower blades hit them, that is...

Damn that's nasty!

In defense of some truckers (my previous profession) not all of them do this. There is an ongoing battle between truckers on etiquette. It costs every state thousands of dollars to clean this garbage up becase a special requirements have to be met before a worker is permitted to pick those bottles up.

They can be DNA tested however, and should be. New CDL license requirements are being enforced on a yearly basis including biometrics, but it wouldn't take much to add that every trucker have his DNA on file to end this "custom".

Firewolf, that's the great thing about the blogosphere: You don't know who will be an expert on what!

The other solution, probably cheaper than cleaning it up or DNA testing, would be to pay truckers a buck a gallon for their own urine at truck stops. They bring the jugs in, they get a buck. We dispose of properly. The only reason we don't try solutions like this is that politicians don't want to be accused in the next election of "buying urine instead of prosecuting criminals."

Firewolf: excellent idea. Now lets also require DNA samples from smokers and gum chewers. And require a license before you are allowed to use the drive-through of McDonalds. We can clean up this planet if we care enough.
Ignore those people pretending to be concerned about civil rights. They are in pay of big business.

Love the sarcasm "Anon" :D

If you are not a professional driver then you don't know that truckers are already extra scrutinized under the DOT. The process to get your CDL is long, and there are alot of background checks done on a person before you even attain a CDL and I haven't even mentioned what they go thru when you get a HAZMAT endorsement.

So, fingerprinting a driver seems to be OK for the goverment, but DNA is out? LOL To me, if you want to know who is and who isn't a terrorist, simply become a trucker in this country and go thru the licensing process. It may not catch them all, but it will weed out most of them, and upon doing so, will sort out the rest of the riff raff who prefer to toss their full urine jugs onto roadside ditches.

I suspect that the ones that are doing it are "old timers" and guys who only care about the almighty dollar. People who take pride in their work and ethic wouldn't succumb to such lousy lifestyle behaviors.

I have no experience with professional driver certification. But setting up a DNA database in order to reduce littering seems like an overreaction. For arguments sake I would deem it easier to justify a national DNA database in order to reduce crime. Just because the technology is there doesn't mean we should implement it.

OTOH were I to visit the USA again I can expect to be finger-printed. The Netherlands, with its liberal reputation, now has an identification law and biometric passports are just around the corner. KLM already offers check-in with retina-scans on some frequent flyer plans. Calls have gone up to require ID when using hospital services.

So my guess is that in 15 years time biometrics will be a fact of life and even money on whether that national DNA database is active. Until that time I'll enjoy my ability to post anonymously ;o)

I can understand time loss for stopping to relieve themselves = money lost, but there has to be a better solution than "trucker bombs"! There is a new product on the market for urine containment that truckers should consider, Better Pant -- and, for safety reasons, they can keep BOTH hands on the wheel while driving! www.betterpant.com

I just found a product that is good so I don't have to stop to pee or try to pee in a jug. You can find it on the internet. It is used with a leg bag and condom that you can also buy on the internet.

Try it out - Better Pant.
