Cinco de Mayo!
If you don't know the story of Cinco de Mayo, be sure to read Dr. Demarche's post this morning. He explains how a Mexican army defeated Napoloeon III's attempt to grab a beachhead on North America. Napoleon III, sort of the Jacques Chirac of his time, was concerned about the growth of American power and wanted to use the Confederacy to contain the United States. If you are happy you don't need your passport to go to Virginia, thank the valiant Mexican soldiers who won a big one at Vera Cruz.
