Blogger is driving me nuts

I'm in New Orleans, between meetings. Blogger has already been down without account once today. More importantly, it continues to eat my email posts and barf them back at some later date, sometimes publishing them and sometimes not. So, if at some random hour in the next couple of days a post surfaces that describes me as sitting on an airplane, note that I actually wrote it and sent it for publication at 8:30 AM EDT today.

I would appreciate any and all useful advice about (i) software and (ii) hosting, and how I might move from Blogger/Blogspot to a superior mix of both with minimal hassle.

And when you find out-let me know! :)

Blogger has been overrun by the kiddies. It has basically become unuasable for me too.

Don't know your situation, whether you can build and install aserver, but I changed to a host at home running through a DDNS conversion link and a cable modem. DynDNS.org can guide you how.

I use the wordpress 1.5 blogware and it is quite easy to set up. FREE.

If you can afford, a pay service is best, but bandwidth costs can escalate fast.

Ditto for the Blogger woes.

You can get good, reliable hosting for about $5 a month if you look around a little. That'll also give you your own domain (tigerhawk.us, tiger-hawk.net, tiger-hawk.org and tiger-hawk.us are all available. Also tigerhawkblog, com etc.). Check out register.com for details.

My advice: Spend a few bucks (it's not that much) and go for a full hosting account with Hosting Matters, then install either Movable Type or Wordpress (or get someone to install them for you). Both free for your purposes.

Blogger was having real problems last week, but it seems to be running well today. We'll see about tomorrow. I hear that they had a nasty spam attack.

Hawk, go for it. Get you a grown-up blog server. Blogger is over.

I say go with Typepad. It's inexpensive and reliable and they have a responsive support department. The mechanics of making an entry are very similar to Blogger.

And you don't have to mess with this danged comment system that demands an identity.
