Know anybody who works for the State of Iowa?
If so, you can look up their salary here.
When I was a growing up in Iowa City, I naturally hung with other faculty brats. Each year the university newspaper, The Daily Iowan, would publish a special section that revealed the salaries of everybody on the faculty. My father didn't bring it home, but there was always some kid who got his hands on this extremely subversive document and spread the word. What we would not have given for a searchable database on the Des Moines Register's web site. That would have been loads of fun. Hey, it is even now! You can figure out the salary of various reasonably well-known bloggers if you dig deeply enough (but I'm not telling you who they are).
Are there other states that publish all the salaries of everybody in government, or is this a uniquely Iowa thing?
