Where are the ninjas?
under tremendous pressure to cave into the jihadists who have threatened to "burn alive" three Japanese civilians unless Japan withdraws its troops from Iraq. So far he has refused to budge, perhaps learning from Spain's sad experience that it is not possible to appease jihadists.
Japan needs to hit back hard. Can it reach within itself and rediscover its martial spirit? If it can, would that make the world a safer place? Even five years ago I would have said that Japanese and German pacifism is better for the world than the alternative. Now I'm not so sure.
