Climate change factoid of the day

Friendly observation that one of the data sets used to measure average global temperature reports an anomaly for June 2009 of... zero (meaning that in June, at least, average global temperature was not above the baseline used to measure warming). The long term trend line remains intact at 0.13C per decade (one degree Celsius every 70 years or so), a small fraction of the rate required to produce the catastrophic outcomes forecast by the alarmists.

Despite this, I believe very strongly that we are headed for catastrophe.

Unfortunately, it will be due to anthropgenic economic suicide brought on by the massive output of hot air from our legislative and executive branches of government.

Top Ten Mistakes in the award of the Nobel Peace Prize:

10. Yasser Arafat, 1994
9. Amnesty International, 1977
8. Henry Kissinger, 1973
7. Mikhail Gorbachev, 1990 (peace of what?)
6. Kofi Annan, 2001 (best bribe given for peace)
5. Spot on the list allocated to the special dunce category of this list.
4. Jimmy Carter, 2002
3. Mother Teresa, 1979 (it really is a popularity contest, run by Swedes and Norwegians)
2. Al Gore, 2007, (and the Swedes and Norwegians appear to be victims of inbreeding over a generation, given their stupidity)
1. Le Duc Tho, 1973 (for best ceasefire negotiated to prepare for a follow-on war - there ought to be clawback provisions in the awards)

I live in Washington DC. It is the Fourth of July.

I have yet to turn on my air conditioning (since last.... October or so.)

It may not even work for all I know.

WTF?!?!?

Just a quick comment about your "Climate Change" headline. Please don't encourage the lunatics by adopting their unscientific terminology.

All reasonable people understand that the climate of the Earth has been in a state of continuous change since the planet was formed. However, the Goreistas have never presented a scientific mechanism for "climate change". All they have ever presented is a mechanism for alleged Anthropogenic Global Warming.

Naturally, they would now like to expand the scam to cover cooling as well as heating, but they have not presented any scientific basis for alleging that anthropoogenic CO2 production causes "climate change".

Their rules. Let's play by them.

From Link,

It may be an anomaly but NYC just had the coolest June since 1958 -- and one of the ten coolest since they started keeping records in 1869.

Back in June 2008 -- when I first paid attention to Obama -- none of his proposals bothered me more than his Energy plan. It just made no sense in a world still governed by math, science and reason.

A year later and the House has passed ACES -- The American Clean Energy and Security Act. Only a theoretically filibuster-proof Senate stands in the way from its becoming law. As I've ranted about here before ... it may be the single stupidest thing brought down on us by Obama & Co.

Boehner did such a good job with his impromptu filibuster back on June 26 that Obama & Co have postponed Senate consideration of ACES until the fall until they re-work their PR. But it'll be back. Hardly anyone was listening to Boehner on a day when we hit the MJ-Farah-Sanford trifecta.

Here's an excellent article from NRO Online that details ACES:
A Garden of Piggish Delights
Waxman-Markey is part power-grab, part enviro-fantasy.

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YTc1MmVhMGYxY2UzNzAwMTJlODBjZjg2NDJjNmM2MWE=&w=MA==

The authors say that ACES won't cut emissions and that "it represents a worse abuse of the public trust and purse than the stimulus and the bailouts put together." Hear, hear. "Waxman-Markey creates a permanent new regime in which environmental romanticism and corporate welfare are mixed together to form political poison. From comic bureaucratic power grabs (check out the section of the bill on candelabras) to the creation of new welfare programs for Democratic constituencies to, above all, massive giveaways for every financial, industrial, and political lobby imaginable, this bill would permanently deform American politics and economic life."

The only losers are all the rest of us. What's insidious about ACES is that it wouldn't do much right away, but it would lock us into a ten to fifty-year flight path to perdition.

How ACES came to be just an Al Franken "Yea" away from becoming law is revealing about what's going on in Washington right now. The Republicans hardly factor in this. Obama sketched out a silly outline and the House Democrats larded it on. A plurality of House Democrats are innumerate deluded shitheads. Most of the rest are spineless or in lobbyist pockets. So a plurality of shitheads carried the day, and lobbyists got their way.

For all the talk of "Hope and Change" ACES is a lobbyist's dream. No wonder Biden's son became one. Many of the winners with ACES are big name companies -- General Electric maybe most of all. From windmills to mandating GE-patented lightbulbs to "Smart Grid" ... much of ACES plays right to GE.

Right now the best investment a big company or collectivist interest can make is to spend on Washington lobbyists hand over fist. It may be the only good investment in America right now. Unless this ends, the rest of us are done for.
