It was about 11 more years until I showed up.
Because my father was an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves at that time, he had to provide written notice that he was leaving the country on a trip. In the late 1940s and 1950s, he would return to Bermuda a number of times during U.S. Navy Reserve exercises / boondoggle cruises out of various ports on the East Coast.
