Joe Biden and FDR's vast powers of communication

This is a beautiful moment.

Joe Biden:

"Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people ... this is how we can fix this," Biden said. "When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the princes of greed. He said, 'look, here's what happened.'"

Megan McArdle:
I certainly feel better knowing that come next November, I might have a savvy politician like Joe Biden explaining complex financial matters to me. And also, how the governor of New York managed to get his own financial show ten years before the first regularly scheduled television broadcast.

I don't care who you are, that's funny.

You can easily imagine other such gaffes.
"Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people ... this is how we can fix this," Biden said. "When the battle of Bull Run went badly, President Grant got on the television and didn't just talk about the brilliance of General Lee." He said, 'look, here's what happened.'"

"Part of what being a leader does is to instill confidence is to demonstrate what he or she knows what they are talking about and to communicating to people ... this is how we can fix this," Biden said. "When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, John F. Kennedy got on the television and didn't just talk about the 'day of infamy.'" He said, 'look, here's what happened.'"

Only rank partisanship prevents the press from busting a gut over this one.

"Princes of Greed"

We've been had. All this time we thought the Democrats were trying to bring back their glory days during the fall of Saigon, and it turns out they are actually setting us up for a replay of 1929.

Prepare for more socialism.

... pathetic ... like saying "Jesus posted a video on youtube, saying 'forgive these princes of greed and evil', for they know not what they've done"

This guy Biden is a friggin' clown. How I wish McCain could step up here and take back some of Obama's bounce on support for this bailout. Limited backstop perhaps, but why should the average honest, billpaying American support making crooks on Wall Street whole, or footing the bill for the irresponsible? of course we can't let the credit markets completely fail, but bailing out scum on their credit cards, car loans, mortgages, etc. is an outrage and voters shouldn't stand for it.

What is really behind the selection of Biden?

Is it really possible that the Democrats are so stupid that they had absolutely no idea that Biden is pretty routine in these types of statements?

Or, is Obama so clueless that he was unaware?

If they aren't that stupid, then why put him on the ticket?

I just don't get it.

I assume that Obama predicted -- correctly -- that the press would give Biden the same pass that it has given him. Biden running alone is a lightening rod, but Obama's magic is apparently transferable to his running mate.

Your hate speech targeting Sen. Biden is exactly the reason that we need a new "fairness doctrine." Fortunately, most responsible media outlets have not sunk to your level.

Ummm....wow....I hope that last comment was a joke. If not, we seem to have been visited by the ghost of Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

Last Anon re Penultimate Anon: I'm fairly sure that it was a joke, but you can never be completely sure.

BTW, I allow people to sign comments "Anonymous," but we would all much prefer it if you chose some screen name. Obviously none of us expect you to use your real names, but giving yourself some label helps us all separate the chaff we agree with from the chaff that we do not.

Tacitly admitting that it is all, in fact, chaff of one sort or another.

Heh.

"When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, John F. Kennedy got on the television and didn't just talk about the 'day of infamy.'" He said, 'look, here's what happened.'"

Channeling Animal House -

"Kennedy?"

"Forget it, he's on a roll."

If this blog constitutes "hate speech" or "fighting words", show me the profanity or incitement to such.
Really.

You don't have to look hard at some blogs we all know that shall remain nameless, but "Tigerhawk"?
Really?

As if the Fairness Doctrine would or could apply to personal blogs.

The shape of things to come.
