As most regular readers know, this blog, which is just shy of its ninth birthday, is fundamentally retired. There are many reasons for this, including that my interests have changed, blogging has changed, our political discourse has changed, my family has changed, and even my job has changed. These considerations all militate against a general interest blog.
Your loyal readership and, in countless cases, actual friendship, has meant a great deal to me. Ultimately, my greatest joy, even in this blog's glory days, was the community. (Yeah, I know that makes me sound like a crunchy-greenie-lefty, but there you have it.)
However, I have a new blog project. It is not open-ended in the fashion of TigerHawk, but rather a celebration and defense of enterprise. To wit, a mission!
This blog is a celebration of enterprise, primarily business but also non-profit, artistic, and humanistic. We love the people who do things to make the world better. We also defend enterprise, and particularly commercial enterprise, from those who attack it, including from within. In short, if you love and yet are worried about the great American spirit of enterprise, this is the blog for you. This blog will be more linky than thinky most days, since Defending Enterprise is a very busy fellow. Expect us to chronicle attacks on enterprise, whether from government or NGOs or statist multinational corporations or “public intellectuals.” We will also champion the stories of people who inspire us with their enterprise — the great businesses, innovative non-profits, and inventors who exercise their creativity by making us all so much more prosperous.
I hope we stay friends.
All hail the community! And good luck with the new venture; I'll be reading.
ReplyDeleteI've always enjoyed this blog and am sorry to see it go. Good luck on the new endeavor. Hope there'll be some Adirondack pictures.
ReplyDeleteAnon Attorney here.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with the new blog, TH. One quibble, your new blog does not have an "Anonymous" comment posting option. Can you address that, or has Blogger eliminated that option?
It is good to hear from you again. Aloha: Goodbye to one bookmark and Hello to a new one.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to Defending Enterprise.
Jim Nicholas
Thank you for the writing you've done; I've enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm glad you're not quitting altogether. We sure need some defense of free enterprise, and your voice has been one of the most effective toward that end.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
You are all very kind. Yes, there will be pictures from time to time. Anon, I'll try the Anonymous option, but consider just adopting a registered identity so we can keep your online persona straight!
ReplyDeletealas, we hardly knew ye.
ReplyDeleteWow....nine years! I think I started following about six or seven years ago, and don't know how I fell into your link. I've missed the almost daily postings, but have come to realize (especially this past year with a few deaths of loved ones, semi retirement, deciding on a new path, etc) that things, including favorite blogs....change.
ReplyDeleteWill be following the new...
Best - Don
I thought this blog and the now defunct Enlighten-NJ were great. Always good analysis and a nice balance of local and national topics. It will leave a real void, as other NJ sites tend to focus on partisan political discussion. I like your practical, business-like approach. I wish you would reconsider.
ReplyDeleteI hope you leave Tigerhawk online; it has a great bloglist that I use as my entryway to the blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteOut with the old and in with the new already? Thanks for memories. Will continue reading at the new place.
ReplyDeleteLoved stopping by to visit your blog. It'll be missed, but I look forward to more insight on your new Website.
ReplyDeleteJH: I've enjoyed your work over the years, and I look forward to following what looks like an interesting set of disquisitions on your new site.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely bookmark and read your new blog. A passionate defense of commerce is needed in today's world!! Good luck!! Keep fighting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your writing and your pictures! I have really enjoyed your efforts. I will be reading your new blog. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteExcellent news. Glad you are back in business.

ReplyDeleteWish there were n more of you.
Will continue to follow.
Thanks for the memories.
Matt
Sorry to see this end, but I’m thankful for the past and surprised that you carried it for as long as you did given your public profile.
ReplyDeleteGood luck at everything.
I’m working on a “project” which folks here might have interest in seeing first. Any interest?
Great. It's a great vision and I congratulate you on this initiative. I wish you much success in your projects and thanks for sharing your important info.
ReplyDeleteIggy, I'm interested. Send along an email to the address at the new blog.
ReplyDeleteYour blog was always a good read, and I can genuinely say that it has had a (positive) impact on my life.
ReplyDeleteAll the best with your new endeavour - I'll definitely be reading!
Best of luck with the new adventures. I've updated my RSS feed reader!
ReplyDeletePray tell what is the new job (at least the new sector?)
I noticed your posts had become few and far between. Your blog is on my regular reading list. It seems like half the list with most of my favorites is gone. I'm sorry to see you wrap up this blog.
ReplyDeleteWill you keep this blog on-line? I ask because I've linked to at least one post of yours (your update on Steven Denbeste's layman's explanation of the Iraq situation).
All the best and I'll be checking out your new blog.
