Bullet dodged: "Card check" is deader than a dead parrot

It will no doubt surprise and please you that the Democrats seem to have missed an opportunity to subtract from our national wealth. "Card check" -- the workplace "election" of a union through open rather than secret ballot -- is dead (lest that was not obvious after November). Liberals argue that you need "card check" -- essentially an election without an election -- because otherwise employers will intimidate workers in to voting against the union. Of course, it is also possible that in many modern workplaces people prefer meritocracy, which they know is inherently incompatible with unionization.

Either way, the defeat of card check is a victory for the general interest against special interests, and for our posterity.

It is one small step. We need so many more. In the layoffs from my last job the deciding factor was union mandated seniority. Most of the best people were let go while the people who had occupied seats the longest were retained. However, let's take the victories when we can get them.

While the legislative effort is dead, it is not at all dead from a regulatory fiat perspective. When confronted by an inability to pass carbon regulation through Congress, the Obama administration responded by announcing new EPA rules accomplishing much of what had been defeated in the legislative round. The same is likely to happen here, I warrant, and I would suggest a close watch on NLRB rules.

Tyranny is on the march.

An example of the problem presented by nefarious Obama administration people.

Here in Connecticut our Democratic/Union government is proposing to ban company run employee meetings as intimidation unless meeting strict rules.

(Obviously if you not only tolerate, but like your management that cannot be allowed)

TH, at times comments disappear into the ozone. In the Libya Stratfor thread, both Sirius and I had posted comments which disappeared into the ozone. In my case, they disappeared multiple times.

This is not the first time I have noticed this. Your software does not like comments which are previewed a lot of times, for example. Nor, if you post without the password, will it reply that you need to add the password. Instead, it will post , state your comment was posted, and then one never again sees the post.

No bullet has been dodged! The dems can not afford to go without the cash that unions extort from members and give to the dems. The unions can't afford to go without that goodies that dems extort from employers, public and private, and give to the unions.
Both the dems and the unions need more members to be fleeced and one legislative misstep doesn't mean that the issue is gone. There are simply too many dem politicians looking for estates in Ireland and on tropic isles.
