Dodd's out

Christopher Dodd has decided that he does not want to explain his "VIP" mortgage or house in Ireland, and will therefore announce his "retirement" this morning. "Retirement" is, of course, in scare quotes because no doubt we will see him often after next November, just not as the senior Senator from Connecticut.

I'll leave it up to you to argue out in the comments whether Dodd's surrender is good for the Democrats or not. If I were them I'd be thrilled, but I almost never get these political tactics things right. What say you?

"You can't fire me, I quit".

I think these are encouraging trends nationwide, as long as Michael Steele has the cujones to wake up the party from it's zombie-like centrist trance.

The best sight of Chris Dudd is in the rear view mirror. Unfortunately, this will increase the Democrats' chance of hanging on to that Senate seat.

Interesting that both Chris and his father Tom ended their Senate careers under clouds of corruption. Given that track record, I doubt we will see a third generation of Senatorial Dodds. His Dad made a name for himself as a prosecutor at Nuremberg. Chris rode into Congress on Dad's coattails.

Amry Matalin got right to the point on Dodd's retirement: Pithy.

That would have been "Mary", not "Amry" but for dyslexic tendancies left over from my mispent youth.
