Virginia Democrats get a clue

The extended TigerHawk family is more attached to Virginia than any other state. Having nothing but affection for the Old Dominion, I am therefore delighted that Virginia Democrats came to their senses and nominated Creigh Deeds for governor rather than Terry McAuliffe, who had the money and the backing of the flower and chivalry of the national party. McAuliffe, you will recall, is the big fundraiser for the Clintons who led Hillary's campaign and was chairman of the Democratic National Committee during George W. Bush's first term. I've always regarded him as one of the most unctuous operatives of either party, and am delighted that Virginia Donks ignored his money and connections and rather unseemly personal need for a platform from which to declaim on national politics.

MORE: Apparently, anti-McAuliffe Virginians owe a debt of gratitude to the Other McCain.

Despite a general leftward drift of late, Virginia showed remarkable poise and sanity in showing this sleazy carpetbagger the door. I must say I had my concerns, but I slept a lot better last night having seen Deeds beat Terry McAuliffe. Have I mentioned I don't like the man?

We tend to be pretty practical here in Virginia. We've got a few loony state politicos. We've got Webb, who was handed the election by the Washington Post. Our Democratic Governers have, for the most part, been old-school Democrats and generally fiscally responsible. So, I'm not terribly surprised that McAuliffe was shown the door.

Does this mean we are finally "over" the Clintons??

Now we all need to work to get Bob McDonnell elected governor. He's a good man.
