Is Barack Obama a hawk in dove's plumage?

I am buried in links from conservatives who are outraged by every new appointment by Barack Obama, but so far I am pleasantly surprised. It could be a lot worse. Indeed, there are early signs that President-elect Obama is treating the hard left with roughly the same respect that George W. Bush rendered unto conservatives. It seems that lefty anti-war groups are fretting over the hawkishness of Obama's foreign policy team, but are reluctant to complain loudly because Obama is so popular. Which is hilarious, if you think about it. Ed Morrissey hands out a well-deserved Petard Award.

While I do not for an instant regret my vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin, I am relieved that -- so far -- President-elect Obama is irritating all the right people.

It may be more valid to assume Obama's appointments reflect his complete absence of political contacts of his own, so he has to rely on names from the Clinton past. He was probably as stunned as I was the voters were willing to put him in office, and his evolving views will be just as astounding to his supporters once in office.

Is a Kennedy playing the role of Obama's Jiminy Cricket? Perhaps Teddy? Or Caroline? That's my guess.

He's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't.

Actually he's hosed if he appoints untested leftist losers to positions where they can do great damage ("You're doing a great job Brownie" ring any bells? Katrina?) and it is the easy and safe path to take previously tested and vetted advisors. To his misfortune, that category is all Clinton advisors, or really, really old Carter advisors. It’s a smart move, as popular as he is, he can hose over his supporters repeatedly before they realize it.

The third Term of Clinton starts Jan 20, get ready.

"The third Term of Clinton starts Jan 20, get ready. "

I never pegged you as an optimist.

...third term...

Yeah, we should be that lucky.

Well now it's official after stories on NPR last night and NBC this morning.

Hate to say I told you so, but...

I told you, so.

Looks like everybody on the liberal left is starting to carp about the lack of "true change" in the democratic cabinet.

As predicted, we are seeing, and will continue to see, lot's of traditional democrats with ties to big party doners making their way to the White House. Expect further instances of Chicago machine politics whereever possible. After all, the endorsements all came with a price tag.

Also, if you want to see some change make sure you look at it together with the hundreds that you are delivering to the service address if 1600 Pennsylvania in a brown paper bag. That's the Chicago way...

I expect disillusionment and critic from the liberal left to gather momentum from here on and continue for the next four years.

Canned camelot = spamalot.

If Hillie takes State (the theft opportunities for the Clintons become extraordinary!), Hussein will have removed 3 ultra-liberal Senators, himself (PBUH), Hillie and Biden. Sure, they'll be replaced by black party hacks, but Obama will have done what the voters couldn't.

By Blogger Viking Kaj, at Fri Nov 21, 04:03:00 PM:

Hillary would be crazy to take the job at State, look at what they did to Colin Powell.

Remeber that old Russian proverb, "Keep your friends close and your enemies in a bear hug" ?

My prediction is that she will consider carefully but decline if she is halfway smart, and I think she is unfortunately ella smart.

The disillusionment of the left will be nothing compared to the raw anger of the millions who voted for Obama expecting the check in the mail on January 21st. Most of these fine examples of citizenry had no earthly idea who they were voting for...and their anger will be that of the "spurned lover".

Oh, well...I guess, having lived thru both, I'd much rather have Clinton ver.2.0 than Carter ver 2.0.

Unfortunately, there will be no Reagan boom or tech wave to give us the prosperity ofthe Clinton years. All we will have is the constant campaigning...minus the sex and tawdryness.

It could be actually DULL!
