What Does Ben Know

That we don't know.
"Firms are hunkering down," Bernanke said at a conference in Chicago today. "They have at least partially replaced the losses with new capital raising, but not entirely."

Would Alan Greenspan ever say "hunker down"?

I think not.

Bank of America is still working on the issues others have already confronted, in my opinion. Their existing problems, like MBNA's rapidly rising delinquencies and the bank's trading and structured finance operations, must be compounded by their prospective deal with Countrywide. The Bank is moving very rapidly to cut all non-essential spending, to preserve capital.
