Sisterhood in the umma

A British Muslim cleric rapes a woman at knife point, but avoids prosecution for a year because he persuades several of his followers to lie to the authorities and thereby establish an alibi. He is eventually prosecuted and convicted because he commits another crime and DNA links him to the rape. Harsh stuff, to be sure, but this part is more disturbing than a Jeremiah Wright sermon:

Burka-clad women in the public gallery yelled abuse at the judge — and one screamed that the victim was a prostitute.

One would think that Western feminists would speak up against this sort of thing, but you rarely hear them. Their relative silence is strange, because they once waged a tough and important political and cultural struggle in the name of women's liberation, reborn as feminism. It seems that even gender solidarity -- to say nothing of garden-variety justice -- means nothing in a confrontation with "diversity."

A flush beats a straight, and the right of non-western cultures to observe their traditions, no matter where or how illegal or heinous, trumps western law. Either game seems pretty understandable to me.

Hey, but three of a kind beats two pair, so polygamy among Muslims is OK, but not so much for so-called Mormon fundamentalists in Utah (because they're western). Maybe if the ratings for "Big Love" go up, that will change!

In the hierarchy of leftist victimology, brown > white, brown > female, female > male. That's all you really need to know.

As for the Islamic women, their reaction isn't surprising. Muslims by and large are utterly incapable of viewing things through other than an Islamic lens. It's not immoral for a Muslim man to rape an infidel woman, so it's unjust to punish a Muslim man for doing so. The lack of 4 male witnesses (required by Sharia) makes it doubly unjust.

On the left, decisions are made on the basis of having the right enemies, not the right friends.

While the silence of the feminists is deplorable, this is by no means the first time this has occurred. Unfortunately, it is par for the course.

So this guy sexually assaulted somebody, then used his position of authority to conceal it? Are you sure he wasn't Catholic?
