A question for Mitt Romney

You may or may not know that the Mormon Church strongly encourages its followers to store a year of food as a matter of course. This is probably why the bulk of the canneries which package food for long-term storage are in Utah, including Walton Feed (which, as a periodic customer, I can strongly recommend by the way. And no, I am not a Mormon).

So my question for Romney would be, "as Mormons, does your family have a one-year food supply in storage, and do you recommend that non-Mormons take similar measures? Why or why not?"

It would be interesting to hear what he has to say.

UPDATE from TigerHawk: This seems like a missed opportunity for Mitt to lock up the survivalist vote, which readers of this blog might assume is larger than popularly understood.

Bwahahaha!

well now....

as a McCainiac...and someone whose friends consider him "hawkish" and "conservative"...it brings a smile to my face to read people *I* consider hawkish and conservative mocking Romney.

I think a much better approach would be to ask that question to the *other* candidates, as in how much personal responsibility they think individuals bear for their own needs during an emergency vs how much should be provided by Government (at all levels).

Is it nit-picking to note that Walton Feed is in Idaho, not Utah?

As a Mormon I think Mitt would encourage everyone to store up a little for a rainy day. I didn't have a years supply, but about 15 years ago I was unemployed for about 8 months. My wife was still working, but because of our storage we lived for 8 months without help from the government, either of out parents, or the church, which has it's own welfare program. We lived on about a negative $100 a month for the entire time. Being prepared for problems like this allows a certain amount of peace of mind and freedom from panic.
