Notes from the culture wars
If this bit of coastal news does not extinguish your Christmas spirit -- or at least your appetite -- nothing much will:
A beefy gent wearing a red Santa hat and purple G-string in Los Angeles this holiday season not only didn't pass for Santa but failed a Breathalyzer test, too.
Rick Carroll, 53, of Long Beach, Calif., who also sported a blond wig, black leg warmers and red, lace camisole, allegedly registered just over the legal blood-alcohol limit of .08 percent when officers tested him after he pulled up in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater Sunday night, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
Now, regular readers know that I have nothing against risque Santa pictures, but I uncompromisingly believe that "beefy gents" should avoid wearing G-strings in public under any circumstances.

Well, uh, maybe to some Midwesterner from Hickville, USA, or some snotty Easterner, but to a native Californian, I found it nothing but whimsical.
Besides, although you seem loathe to admit it, black leg warmers with a red camisole sounds absolutely smashing.
(some people just have no sense of fashion)
Do me a favor, will ya? Won't take but a sec:
- Hold down the left Alt key.
- While holding it down, enter "0151" on the numeric keypad over to the right, not the usual number keys up above.
- Release the Alt key.
That's how you make a quick horizontal line, rather than the amateurish two dashes.
To find out the Alt codes for each character, open Start Menu, System Tools, Character Map. First enter "Arial" at the top, then, when you select a letter, you'll see the 4-number Alt code down at the lower-right. 0-2-3-3 is an accented 'e', as in résumé. Very handy trick.
BTW, are you back? Can we start picking on you again? Let us know.

Any clothing that looks like string on a pot roast should be shunned and avoided....
