Helen Thomas is a moral cretin

I have long thought that Helen Thomas is an embarrassment to the White House press corps, and that if journalism were an actual profession instead of a make-believe one it would self-police her into the back row. This exchange, for example, in which she essentially accuses American soldiers of killing civilians intentionally and routinely with all the nuance and sophistication of a D-list lefty blogger, reveals her hollow moral center and transporting incompetence.

CWCID: Glenn Reynolds.

Spot on, TH. Helen Thomas is just one of the many reasons I seek out news from sources other than the MSM.

Back when we lived in DC, my wife and I had Helen Thomas & her husband [now deceased] over for a formal sit-down dinner along with other journalists [Philip Geyelin of the WashPost & Christopher Hitchens, then struggling as a Nation stringer].

I had lived in Lebanon & Helen talked of her Lebanese heritage, including her Greek Orthodox religious roots, though she added that she no longer practiced & had a bit of hostility toward religion in general.

GHWB was president & she was relatively low-key, as I recall, though Hitchens was still in his left-wing mode & acerbic wit was his weapon.

The one thing I remember that struck me at the time is that Helen actually outdrank Christopher H., and between the two of them polished off a bottle of Dewar's in lickety-split fashion.

Those were the days [I was Int'l Editor of The Oil Daily & Armand Hammer used to call me with compliments] when such dinner parties were still possible. Nowadays, the country & DC's social set is much more polarized, my friends inside the Beltway tell me.

Conversely, Ms. Dana Perino, whose name I must confess I did not even know prior to this incident, should be commended for the grace and dignity with which she responded to Thomas' vile remarks. There is video of this on Hot Air.

"Armand Hammer"

I always found the connections between Hammer and Albert Gore Sr. interesting.

You mean that isn't a gag name?

No, Dawnfire82, and Armand Hammer had nothing to do with the baking soda either. You'll like the story. This piece from the year 2000 touches some of the points:

"Gore sensitive about Hammer connection"

P.S. Hammer was CEO of the Occidental Petroleum Company.

After Albert Gore Sr. left Congress, he resumed the practice of law with Occidental Petroleum Company and became vice president and member of the board of directors.
