Is Iran trying to piss us off?

The answer pretty much has to be "yes":

Reuters caption:

A member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard stands next to a picture of an American hostage in front of the former U.S. embassy during a gathering to mark the anniversary of its seizure in Tehran November 4, 2007. Thousands of Iranians chanted "Death to America" and vowed not to yield to U.S. pressure over Iran's nuclear programme at a demonstration on Sunday marking the 28th anniversary of the seizure of the American embassy.

It seems to me that those who claim that the Bush administration is "demonizing" Iran should instead ask why the Islamic Republic -- which has today celebrated a heinous violation of international law and incited crowds of Iranians to call for the destruction of the United States -- is demonizing itself. The reason, perhaps, is to make it politically impossible for any American president, including Barack Obama, to engage in direct and public negotiations with Iran over any subject that is important to the United Sates.

And IRAN is in the UN so why should we have anything to do with this wretched UN and its band of terrorists supporters

Iran is a real threat I can be sure of it.

But this IS a prelude to "negotiations", negotiations on their terms, guaranteed to give them the outcome they desire, not only in substance but also the propaganda effect.

They are playing to several audiences, not the least of which is the "Arab Street" and the "Muslim Street". If they can publicly thumb their noses over and over again at The Great Satan, and then clobber us in "negotiations", they win a lot without firing a shot.

It's the public bazaar mentality of haggling. Get used to it.

They need a major dustup for the 12th imam prophesy to happen, so of course they're doing everything they can to provoke a conflict.

They need a flyover of an unmarked US military UFO to remind them that when we decide to "negotiate", we'll do so on our own terms. Russia is a skunk in all of this, too.

Carter was a pantywaist, and should've given them a short time horizon to fork over our people, or find shelter. Spare the innocent bystanders, but level the government and military installations. Make sure to drop a few on the palaces too.

Yo.

Negotiations have been working in North Korea with the almost certainly insane Kim Jong-Il. Yet we can't negotiate with Iran, which doesn't even have nukes yet?

So let me get it straight -

If you have nukes, we'll negotiate with you.
If you don't, then we won't. We'll invade you instead.

I wonder what this encourages? If I were a nation, I'd be working feverishly to get some nukes. It's the only guarantee of safety from the U.S.

Yo.

Comparing North Korea's MO and record of behavior to Iran's is... well, look.

One, a stagnant, severely introverted and impoverished nowhere-land interested only in prolonging its own sad existence.

The other, an openly revolutionary and expansionistic power best known for it's key roles in founding, funding, and directing terrorist organizations in order to alter the course of world events. Oh, and which believes that death in battle against the infidel rewards you with eternal paradise. (which is how they found recruits for their Basij battalions in the war with Iraq, whose duties included charging minefields and machine guns in order to expend the enemy's stores of ammunition and clear a path for other, real combat units)

Yeah, they should be treated completely the same.

I'm just saying that if you've got nukes it doesn't seem to matter if you've got a dictatorial regime, we'll talk. Pakistan is a major ally, but they've got nukes, radical Islam, a military dictatorship, and martial law.

North Korea got talks.

Iraq got the bullet.

If I'm a country, I'm working feverishly to get the bomb. That way I won't be invaded, and the international community will talk to me. Until I have the bomb, I'm in danger of being invaded or locked out.

Seems that talking to nuclear states is smart because it's good to come to agreements.

Seems that talking to non-nuclear states that may be seeking to get nukes is smart because it's good to come to agreements.

Invade Iran because they might have nukes one day a few years from now? Terrible idea.
