Investigating Hsu

On the nano-chance that you missed my op-ed on the Hsu/Paw Democratic fundraising story for Pajamas Media on Thursday, I predicted that the story would fade away unless new facts emerged that suggested that important Democrats knew of Hsu's criminal background or that his somewhat mysterious wealth originated outside the United States. If new facts exist, how would we learn them? Well, a prosecutor might squeeze them out of Hsu.

Against that background, today's Wall Street Journal reports that the United States Department of Justice has opened up an investigation into Hsu's fundraising activities on behalf of leading Democrats. Michelle Malkin is following the story with charts and graphs and 8X10 color glossy photographs, but I still think the facts as they stand today are pretty thin. Yes, it is entirely possible that Hsu violated campaign finance law -- an easy and tempting thing to do -- but that alone will not hurt Democrats, who were quick to distance themselves and dump the money when the story broke. No, if Hsu is just a groupie who loved rubbing elbows with politicians this story will die even if he broke a few laws along the way.

But -- and this is a huge "but" -- if the Justice Department finds that Hsu's money came from China it will be very damaging for Democrats, because it will reinforce the already troublesome narrative that Democrats are more interested in their own victory than our national security.

"the already troublesome narrative that Democrats are more interested in their own victory than our national security."

The narrative you just reinforced, you mean?

The narrative that you just reinforced that suggests that people like me want the worst for our country?

The narrative that suggests I'm a traitor?

You're on the rocky beach of the Kool-Aid ocean here, Hawk. It's disgusting, and it's not taking Republicans anywhere. If you want folks to support the war, then you'll need to do something about the facts.

The White House will put their best facts on display soon and ignore the other 90%. And with this mention of Hsu, you've managed to do the same regarding Washington.

Pay no attention as the entire Republican Party implodes from scandal after scandal - instead distance yourself ("pretty thin") from Malkin while touting her post, spreading the narrative, and ignoring the bad news.

Bad form, and you want to talk about being bad for America...

Gordon, Speaking of Kool Aid---you are full of it and then some. And Hawk, if the money didn't come from China, from where did it come. Soros? Hollywood? Two of Hsu's "businesses" were residences in Manhattan. I would like to generate that kind of money from a vacated residence. More Kool Aid Gordon?

Gordon, If by "people like me" you mean Jack Murtha, Harry Reid, and Dick Durban, well then yeah, I do think that those people are willing to put their return to power above all other considerations.
Tell us, do you not think we are at war with a global jihadist movement (many of whom are in Iraq at the moment fighting against out troops)?
Do you not think the jihadists are looking everywhere they can for state sponsors, especially if they have the capability of obtaining powerful weaponry?
Do you not think the establishment of a stable Iraq in the center of the middle east region would improve the prospects for peace there?
Do you not think that if the politicians of opposition party in this country, admittedly with just about as many members as the elected party, had gven their full support to the Iraq project, that the war would have been over long ago, and the international community would have been largely on board?

I think it is interesting that those who ended up with the money, "donate it to charity." There is a benefit to charitable giving, you make friends if nothing else. Also, it implies acceptance. I think it might be an illegal funding of charities.

I think the money should go back to Hsu.

Gordon, these are the facts as now known, not Kool Aid, and nothing to do with BusHitler.

I am , I guess, an old-fashioned guy and tend to wait till an investigation, a jury, etc tell us what is and is not rather than some viotriol spilled online and followed by all sorts of inane name-calling.

As for Iraq: that is a lost cause. If you do not know that by now, then you need a course of some sort. It would be bad enough if Sunnis were killing Shia, and Al Qaeda killing randomly and Kurds somehow in the mix.
But, alas, we now have Shia fighting Shia and Sunnis against Sunnis! It is, then, a civil war and no matter how potent our military it can do nothing. Politics trumps surging

Anonymous at 6:59. More Kool Aid.

On #1, wait for a jury. But Iraq is a lost cause? Maybe you should judge after it is over, based on your reasoning in #1?

And I missed the inane name calling and viotriol [sic].

Really well done article for PJ's MEDIA.

I am curious...

Why was Mr. Hsu placed on the board of trustees of the very Liberal 'New School', and why did The New School receive a federal appropriation secured by Hillary Clinton last year?

It smells...

It is also just another very ugly reminder of the corruption which is associated with the Clintons.

Hard to believe, Democrats would want to return such 'pardon peddlers' to the White House.

The Clintons made it policy to lie about the Genocide in Rwanda.

They also proved inept, negligent, in dealing with the growing threat of Islamic Radical Militancy.

The Clintons were actually debasing the US Intel Capability, our National Defenses, after the first attack on the WTC in 1993.

8 years of negligence, including appeasing the killer named Arafat, proved mindless.

And Democrats want to return to the days of sexual harassment cases, perjury, and interns?

It seems insane.
