Stop the presses!

Is there anyone who didn't see this coming?

OSLO, Norway - Former Vice President Al Gore was nominated for the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his wide-reaching efforts to draw the world's attention to the dangers of global warming, a Norwegian lawmaker said Thursday.
I expect over the next several months, Gore will cement his standing before the judges with a series of hysterical anti-Bush rantings in foreign nations. The only question left unanswered will be how many carbon credits he will buy with his award money.

I like it when you make predictions. It shows a willingness to take a risk. I suspect you're right about anticipating Gore's rants. I think he learned that trick from Howard Dean.

What bothers me, though, is your apparent distaste for carbon credits. This is a Republican idea. If Gore believes in Global Warming, is he really being a hypocrite by buying carbon credits? Whatever you feel about the greenhouse issue, don't you think that carbon credits are actually effective at reducing carbon emissions?

Why wasn't he nominated for the NP in science?

Big Al, please, please run for President! With Kerry out of the race, we really need some entertainment.

"Why wasn't he nominated for the NP in science?"

At a guess, because what he's saying is not a scientific discovery he made or especially shocking. He's nominated for peace, again at a guess, because if we don't pay attention to our oil- and pollution-related problems, the negative results could lead to much fighting and destruction.

It's the sort of action that pre-emptively strikes for peace.

That would be my guess.

That, and because anyone can be nominated.

JJ,

I'm a big fan of carbon credits. Let me be the first to call on Al Gore, should he win, to devote his entire $1 million prize to taking some off the market.

The nobel commitee has become a mutual masturbation society, nothing more.

The nobel commitee has become a mutual masturbation society, nothing more.

but, perhaps, by uniting the ideological spectrum:

CNN:

"A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference, and Al Gore has made a difference," Conservative Member of Parliament Boerge Brende, a former minister of environment and then of trade, told The Associated Press.

Brende said he joined political opponent Heidi Soerensen, of the Socialist Left Party, to nominate Gore as well as Canadian Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier before the nomination deadline expired Thursday.

And Rush Limbaugh has been nominated too. Guess which one I hope wins.
