O.J. and the outrage

Bill O'Reilly and everybody else and his brother are going bananas over the publication and promotion of O.J. Simpson's new book If I Did It. I agree that we should not support the lining of his pockets -- note the absence of the usual Amazon Associates link -- but isn't this sanctimony a little hard to take? The mainstream media has sold hours of advertising to broadcast the propaganda films of al Qaeda -- which the Islamist terrorists distribute precisely so they will be broadcast -- and the rantings of brutal dictators (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad being the latest example), which broadcasts advance their political, diplomatic and financial objectives. These people are not merely murderers, they are enemies of our country and our civilization. The idea that promoting O.J. Simpson is somehow qualitatively worse than promoting al Qaeda, Hezbollah or the president of Iran is absurd.

I have a long memory and I do hold a grudge. (sometimes) I remember all the cable channels and talking heads who made beau coup bucks with the blood spilled. Geraldo being one of the main culprits. What hypocrites that they are now decrying that SHOCK! money is being made by the death of two people. Remember also that Greta made her first TV appearances with that trial and the court TV channel is an outgrowth of the overwhelming viewer support of bloody gore. What ghouls we all are. I thought it was terrible at the time that so much money was being made on the deaths of two people, I think it's terrible now.

At least the media pretends not to pay the terrorists for those videos.

It's not that it's so much worse -- it's just that it's crossing a new line. Once upon a time, supporting active military enemies of our country would have been considered over the line as well.

I never really thought of the new OJ book being promotion in relation to terrorist propaganda, but you are correct - why the outrage about OJ, but it's perfectly OK for them to air terrorists' propaganda. However, I do also agree with Clint about a new line being crossed...

There are no lines anymore for the media.
