Myrtus and her co-bloggers speculate on the basis of at least circumstantial evidence that Hezbollah may be spreading around counterfeit American money as part of its "reconstruction" project. I'm not convinced they're right, but does sound like something Hezbollah and Iran would do: subvert the American economy and get "credit" for rebuilding Lebanon, all in one simple transaction.

Just to add a little fuel to the "Axis of Evil" conspiracy fire, North Korea has been alleged to be in the business of counterfeiting US $100 bills... see here.
ReplyDeleteA good guess would be that if this was indeed "funny money" it came from North Korea packed in missle crates and transshipped to Damascus via Iran.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe that the Hezzies would give their own people bogus bills, but if the cash is genuine we need a sharp Madison Avenue PR firm to explain to the locals that the money originated in America because if it came from "Mother" Iran it would be in Rials.
