Why journalism is the sleaziest business there is

It is, frankly, hard to imagine a business sleazier than mainstream corporate journalism.

CWCID: Jonah.

MORE: Jeff Goldstein nails it.

STILL MORE: Tim Blair reprises Mike Wallace's famous -- and morally revolting -- claim that he is a "journalist" before he is an American. This almost forces me to link to my proposal for various reforms of the "ethics" of journalism, including with regard to the duties of citizenship. Blair link via Glenn Reynolds.

The pic is obviously fake/staged.

I happen to own a Dragunov, just like that one, and I'm left handed. The rifle is virtually impossible to shoot for a lefty in the manner that jackass is holding it. The guy's sniper technique is way lame too.

I shoot mine right handed because its so difficult to shoot lefthanded with the scope mounts being offset to the left side.

Oh, and aren't virtually all arabs right handed due to social taboos against lefties?

What's up with that?

Of course, he may just be a lame shot too. Recall, this is the sub-culture in which some instructors tell their students not to aim so that "God can guide their bullets." Shortened into the US military phrase, "spray and pray."

TigerHawk, if by, "the sleaziest business there is" you mean journalism is "the business in which sleazy people can most easily get a job", then I wholeheartedly agree with you.

In fact, I think it is so easy that I worry that word professional will become tainted with the perception of sleazy. Journalism already has been and that may never be undone.

Dusty,

That's why I was so careful not to use the word "profession."

LOL, Tigerhawk.

On another note, I've been thinking of the suggestion that the picture is fake, or that the event was staged.

Right now, I take it on faith that they are reporting truthfully regardless of how much I am sickened by their callous disregard for the safety and security of our troops, their juvenile conceptions of neutrality and courageousness, and their cavalier attitude with respect to our victory over our enemies. (And let me say, this is my non-muslim version of a Mohammed cariacature. You know, the ones that they didn't publish out of respect to sensivities.)

But only Heaven will be able to save them if they knew this was staged but published it anyway because it was "fake but accurate".
