Tornadoes in Iowa City 

Growing up, we lived in Iowa City fourteen years, and never once did a tornado come near. The lore in the Seventies was that a tornado hadn't come through Iowa City in forty years, which gave rise to all sorts of local wisdom about the river valley protecting it.

Oops.
