Rules to enter Iowa

The Tall Glass of Milk has listed some "rules" for entering Iowa. To TTGPM's rules, I would add one more: If you don't know what "The Big Peach" was, you know nothing about the soul of Iowa.

Okay, Google gives me a Big Peach in Vincennes, Indiana and a water tower in Alabama. And some nonsense about Atlanta. There's a chance we may be driving out to San Francisco this summer. What do I have to know besides the two fingered steering wheel wave?

Just so you know, I spent a summer doing shows outside of Moline, IL and spent a couple days in Davenport selling ads. That's the extent of my Hawkeye life.

About fifteen years ago I spent a little over a year in Des Moines. I didn't get the big peach. I thought it was stupid. The people who put out the big peach proposed changing the big peach. At work you would have thought they proposed nominating the anti-christ for governor.

I still don't get it.

Well, Pile, you obviously aren't an Iowan. The Big Peach was the single coolest thing that a newspaper ever did. Except RAGBRAI.

Sluggo, the Big Peach is no more, so you can pass through Iowa without knowing about it.

Perhaps Minnesota does suck but we didn't need to make it a criminal offense to sleep with a sheep just so people wouldn't sleep with them, we were well above the smarts curve for that.
