If the FEC makes rules that limit my First Amendment right to express my opinion on core political issues, I will not obey those rules.
I'll go further: If any organ of federal or state government limits my right to express any opinion on this blog, I will not obey. There are times when a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Sometimes that means standing in line to vote hoping that the suicide bombers don't break through. Other times it means something much more prosaic and requiring much less courage -- the simple willingness to litigate. No problem.
TH, IF and WHEN that day comes, I'll be more than happy to stand with you, but this really strikes me as just a tad bit premature.
I signed the letter to the FEC because I trust them just about as far as I can throw them and I think a policy of pessimism is wise, but that's not the same thing as thinking this is really going to happen. They'd have to be out of their (*&^ minds to try to regulate grassroots blogging with no money involved.
Now if there is $$$ involved... I'm not so sure they can't stick their big noses in. But then if JohnKerry.com is blogging I think that sort of think is probably meant to be covered by McCain-Feingold even if it IS bad law.
I'm a bit bemused by all the buzz. Watch it? Sure. Get my pantyhose in a knot over it? I'm not there yet.
