Fake but accurate yellow ribbons

Confederate Yankee shreds the Times Herald-Record, which supports its story on allegedly flagging support for the troops with a picture of a limp, tired-looking yellow ribbon tied around a telephone pole.
The problem is, the ribbon they show is a lie.

I know, I placed it there.

Or perhaps not that ribbon in particular, but hundreds like it. These ribbons are on telephone poles across the region and perhaps around the country, used by electric company subcontractors to mark poles for a multitude of reasons. They are not there for the reasons the newspaper implies.

Yankee has the picture, plus some background detail on the marking of utility poles which will undoubtedly interest TigerHawk's many dilettantish readers.
