History has a way of being colored. The United States has never really shown any interest in the Irish "Troubles". And while it pains me to say so, I must give props to George Mitchell and even Bill "Hey little girl want a cigar" Clinton because as lame as it was, Mitchell did attempt to broker a resolution with then President Clinton's blessings. As for the population increase, it's easier to have a boom when you're not being killed by paramilitary terrorists or, as in the case of the 19th century, starved to death by Cromwell. Yes, the famine and emmigration did wipe out a large part of the population but the handling of the famine crisis by the occupiers, some say, could be labled genocide. www.irishholocaust.org
