Just desserts?

A lot of people think that this is late in coming:
Iraq has issued an arrest warrant for Ahmed Chalabi, a former governing council member, on counterfeiting charges and another for Salem Chalabi, the head of Iraq's special tribunal, on murder charges, Iraq's chief investigating judge said Sunday....

"They should be arrested and then questioned and then we will evaluate the evidence, and then if there is enough evidence, they will be sent to trial," said Judge Zuhair al-Maliky.

The warrants, issued Saturday, accused Ahmed Chalabi of counterfeiting old Iraqi dinars -- which had been removed from circulation following the fall of Saddam's regime last year, he said.

Apparently neither Chalabi is in Iraq right now. Hmmm.

What are the political implications, if any, for the "civilian leadership of the Pentagon" (which, by the way, is code for the Wolfowitz, Feith, and a number of the other hawks)? Now that he's in trouble in Iraq, will Chalabi start spreading all sorts of nasty allegations about his erstwhile benefactors? Will anybody listen if he does?

CWCID: Glenn.

UPDATE: CNN is reporting that Chalabi and his nephew intend to return to Iraq to face the charges. If he follows through, that implies a basic confidence in Iraqi justice, I would say.
