Iran - the Next Domino

Please read the following testimony by Michael Ledeen to Congress provided by the New York Sun. His subject is Iran and an American policy. It is both chilling and optimistic, in that it first makes clear the danger of the current regime in Iran and, second, offers a prescription for fomenting revolution there. If it can be done as Ledeen suggests, it would without question be a tremendous outcome for the US. I don't think I am as optimistic.

So Schochu John - what would you suggest?

The Shah acted alot like Ataturk or perhaps Musharraf today. He tried to modernize the country and repressed lots of things he shouldn't have, but most certainly he repressed islam. Ataturk similarly took religion as much as possible out of the state.

From the standpoint of US strategic interest, islamic theorcracy is a greater evil than a militayr government. Of course, liberty, democracy, tolerance are best.

But the mullahs and their proxies are the worst.

So, again Schochu John, what is your presecription? Hmm? Do you have one?

Michael Ledeen is what we on the left call a warmonger.

Screwy - did you read the transcript dolt? He's not mongering war...

By Blogger Gordon Smith, at Thu Mar 09, 08:04:00 AM:

Dolt?

"The first step in crafting a suitable policy toward Iran is to abandon the pretense that we can arrive at a negotiated settlement. It canÕt be done." The piece then goes on to encourage limited military strikes.

Ledeen has been wanting a war with Iran since the Reagan years, so go sell your 'dolt' somewhere else.

By Blogger Cardinalpark, at Thu Mar 09, 12:15:00 PM:

Ledeen did not advocate a military strike. He did say there is no chance of a negotiated settlemnt.

He advocated supporting a revolution akin to how we saw the Soviet Union fall apart.

You don't read throughly or carefully at all Screwy.
