Regarding powerful men and high-end escort services
Pajamas Media has found its way to the former booking agent for a high-end escort service. "Ruth Henderson" says that Spitzer syndrome is far more common than we plebes might imagine:
Show me a rich and powerful man between the ages of 35 and 60 who has never paid an escort for sex, and I will show you a man who is a very rare exception.
I know a fair number of rich and powerful men in the specified age range, and have not heard this. Obviously, I am not considered rich and powerful enough to be let in on all the class secrets.

Well no kidding, all the rich and powerful men this woman knows she knows because they use her service.

yeah, seems like a bit of a fishbowl phenom at work here.

Yes, Anon 3:13, you cite what data crunchers might refer to as "sample bias" -- one of many things that can go wrong that ends up producing bad survey results!
I'm with TH; I know plenty of rich and powerful men in that age range, and I think it is the rare exception that uses call girls. And the ones that do are in the upper reaches of that bracket and are only capable of doing so thanks to the advances of "Big Pharma"!

There are quite a few who would get in a lot less trouble if they would just use prostitutes instead of all the silliness perpetrated on people in their workplace.
She's right about power relationships, though. Many people get very drunk on their ability to manipulate people. My armchair diagnosis of Spitzer is that he does.
Having said that, the one guy I know with a net worth north of $5 billion is just about the most down to earth person I know. I know some $50million+ weirdos who are very straitlaced at work. Thinking about it some more, they tend to be old money like Spitzer.

btw, the national politicians I've come across in business are among the most flagrantly screwed up people I've met. Congresspeople, to be more precise.

Mindles -
I agree with your take about manipulation.
I don't believe, however, that the Spitzers can be regarded as "old money." I am not sure precisely what the cut-off is between old and not old, but if your father made the family fortune (as Eliot's father did in New York real estate, I believe), in some circles that would still be considered nouveau riche.
But it's all green and it counts the same, as far as I'm concerned, and in any case, has little to do with the measure of a person.

One has to consider Eliot's judgment on another angle. He's banging a tattooed former street urchin and drug abuser. I'm seeing STDs, HepC, and a host of other nasty risks associated with that.
When I'm loaded and want a piece of ass, it won't be some two-bit whore.
If you really have money, you don't have to pay for it in such overt ways, but yeah, you're paying somehow...

Spitzer already had a perfectly beautiful wife. What was wrong with her?
Don't get it. "Dupree" seems hardly worth it.

There's always the possibility that the spousal relationship had gone cold. In which case 'perfectly beautiful' is only so helpful. But he could also just be a thrill-seeker.

I've been working long hours for 20 years to become rich and powerful but making little progress, now I know where I went wrong...

Being rich and powerful is good, but what if you add more passion in?
